COQUELIN, Francoise

Francoise Coquelin was born in Normandy, France. She then studied in Paris, in Belgium and the UK as well as in Australia, where she has been living for the past 15 years.

Her background combines science, design and art, with years of sculpting metal and other materials into unique pieces.

Her body of work consists of several distinctive series with a clear continuation in style and inspiration.

Artistic Vision

Francoise Coquelin finds inspiration in the strength hidden behind Nature’s apparent fragility. Her sculptures seem to embody creative and healing powers, exploring the ongoing process of evolution.

Wire Sculpture Series

Among Francoise’s most significant bodies of work is a large collection of wire sculptures. They feature an array of organic forms, including seeds, bulbs, leaves, drops, forming suspensions, lianas and fantastical creatures she refers to as “crazy monsters”, with qualities of airiness, transparency, and lightness – elements that are central to her artistic vision.

Totem series

Another collection features a large ensemble of totem-like sculptures in mixed media and bronze, also imbued with nurturing and protective qualities. In 2024-25, two bronzes were commissioned by Lane Cove Council and stand in outdoor locations in Greenwich and Riverview.

In these and other bodies of work, Francoise’s sculptures represent a positive and hopeful vision of creation.
