MORRELL, Angela

My sculptures are metaphorical reflections on the foibles and predicaments of the female component in nature.  The imagery is symbolic, whimsical and light hearted but also reflects a serious side.

A belief in the strong interconnectedness of all things is the impulse behind much of what I do.  I interact with and get dictated to by the materials I choose to work with.  My senses are triggered by organic materials, stones, silver, resin, bronze, rusting steel and forms found in nature.  By using these ingredients I develop concepts that demonstrate radiance and energy.  A physical trajectory takes place and an overlapping of edges and meanings occur.  They contain suggestions of the naturalistic and of the abstract that lead to a variety of interpretations.  A layering of remnants from past and present cultures is to be seen.  With the juxtaposition of fine metal and full organic shapes, objects become energized with female sensuality.

My sculpture contains my signature which is bold and yet gentle and often contains a blend of the spiritual and a degree of humour.
