Life presents a range of challenges and opportunities which impact on our everyday life and its experiences. My sculptures are informed by these situations where the puzzles of life are ever present. Being essentially an optimist my struggle with these challenges often adopts a playful, even whimsical, approach to the subject. The forms are simple and often stylised.

In creating my sculptures I enjoy working with fine wood and materials for which I can develop a range of finishes. Both bronze and timber provide these opportunities for me. My works in timber, bronze and stone engage with the figure while exploring themes of relationships and a sense of self.

I have a commitment to themes of reflection and inquiry. My current series of bronze works juxtapose highly polished facades with dark textured faces, reflecting life’s differing outlooks. This treatment of the bronze figures encourages the viewer to explore the form.

The sculptures often challenge the possible in both the physical and emotional worlds, drawing the viewer into their complex scenes. Their puzzle-like formations convey both the opportunity and challenges of life. They capture a
moment in time, expressing a dynamic of potential in their strongly emotive sensibility. With a background in geology, and after spending several decades working in the community and not for profit sector,

I commenced study in the fine arts at the Sydney Gallery School, Meadowbank TAFE. I completed an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts with a double major in printmaking and sculpture in 2008.
In a review for the Sculptors Society Bulletin, Angela Morrell wrote of my work, it “is disciplined and precise with integrity and poise.”
I enjoy working in a studio at my farm “Fosterton”, near Dungog.

I seek to provide an insight into the soul, capturing for the viewer an emotion they feel or have felt or indeed would like to feel.
